UK Information
Comprising England, Scotland, Wales in Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the
North East corner of Ireland), United Kingdom is a sovereign state located in
North West Europe. It is just 34kms/21mls North West from France across the
English channel.
LONDON The largest city (and capital) is
London which is situated within England, in the South East. Birmingham is the
next largest according to population. Scotland’s capital city is Edinburgh,
although Glasgow has a higher population. Cardiff is both Wales’ largest city
and capital, with Swansea following it. Northern Ireland’s capital and largest
city is Belfast, Derry/Londonderry is the second. The United Kingdom offers a
melting pot of different cultures. As a constitutional monarchy, the Queen
reigns supreme over the state.
CLIMATE Temperate
climate generally cool to mild with frequent cloud and rain throughout the year,
but also spells of settled, fine weather. Summers can be quite warm. The south
tends to be warmer and drier than the north, and the west wetter than the east.
Most rain (snow in winter) is in the higher regions of Scotland, Wales and
Northern England
