As you approach Whitby it leaves a lasting impression with the picturesque bay and the ruins of the Abbey looking down. It is a fantastic place to leave your everyday life behind. Why not walk the steps to the visit the Abbey or take a trip on one of the many boat excursions? Goathland was made famous as the setting of the fictional village of Aidensfield in the popular Heartbeat television series which is set in the 1960s. Many landmarks from the series are recognisable, including the stores, garage/funeral directors, the pub and the railway station. Thornton-le-Dale is a picturesque village on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors that has an ancient market cross, stocks on the small village green and a variety of interesting shops near the beck. Pickering is most famous for its tourist attractions, like the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Medieval Castle, Beck Isle Museum and the stunning Saxon Church with its world-famous 15th century wall paintings.
