Enjoy the spectacular views of the beach by taking the funicular tram up the cliffs, or if you prefer to walk off the seafront indulgences, you can take the stairs carved into the cliff. Speaking of stairs, there are 199 to climb to the Abbey ruins in Whitby, or if you'd prefer a more interactive view of the harbour, there are plenty of boat trips that run daily- see if you can encounter a friendly seal or the spot where Dracula himself washed up. There is a magical and fantastical feel to this part of Yorkshire, because not only is it home to Bram Stoker's famous legend, but between Whitby, Pickering and Goathland is the setting of both Hogsmede Station from Harry Potter and the instantly recognisable set of well-loved TV show, Heartbeat. Steam trains, sorcery, and seasides, oh my!
