Brussels, the capital, is best known as the administrative capital of the EU (European Union). At its centre is the Grand Place, a plaza with delightful flower displays which is surrounded by narrow streets, restaurants and bars and exquisite chocolate shops.

North of Brussels is the famous Westmalle monastery, one of many such monasteries which allow visitors to sample their home-made beers. Northwest is the pretty medieval town of Bruges, a favourite weekend getaway, with its narrow waterways and streets inviting visitors to take a canal carriage rides.

There's a wide range of accommodation to suit every budget, and loads of deals throughout the year from city hotels in particular. Getting there is also easy as travel by Eurostar takes just a few hours from the UK.
